Advanced Diploma In Integrative Counselling

The course is spread over a 12 month period and will consist of evening classes (from 5.30 -9pm), study days and a residential weekend.

Interested individuals will have a Diploma in Integrative or Person-centred counselling, and will be looking for an Accredited post Diploma qualification which is accredited by  ABC Awards (a nationally recognised awarding body)  ABC awards accredit only courses who follow the minimum standards as set out by the BACP.

As an Organisational Member of BACP we are bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, the Ethical Guidelines for Researching Counselling and Psychotherapy (where organisations undertake research) and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force".

In accordance with BACP Guidelines the course is highly experiential. This allows students the space to explore how the philosophy of reflective practice can be applied to research and therefore to enhanced practice.

Despite the huge literature on competing theories WELL Training Ltd strongly believes that it is the underlying relationship between therapist and client which has the potential to initiate client change.  WELL Training Ltd are deeply aware of the theory/ practice gap which can occur in any formal training in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  It is for this reason that this Advanced Diploma is strongly focussed on refining existing theories and translating and embedding these concepts into practice.   Clients and therapists are philosophically and culturally diverse and it is this recognition which underpins all training courses with WELL Training.

  • How long is the course?

The Advanced Diploma will last for one year part-time.  There will be one residential and several workshops during the course of the year.  There will be some evening classes and study days throughout the year TBA.

  • Accreditation

The course will be fully accredited by ABC Awards.  As the course is made up of 150 guided learning hours, this module can also be used towards the BACP accreditation pathway criteria 4.3, where each collected module must represent a minimum of 90 hours.

  • Where will the course take place? 

WELL Training Ltd is a Swansea based learning provider, using several different training locations in Swansea and Gower.

  • What do I need to have already?

In order to enter the Advanced Diploma pathway, students will have already completed the ABC level 4 or equivalent Diploma and have already successfully completed a minimum of 100 supervised client hours.

  • Target group

Candidates will have already completed an ABC awards Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or it’s equivalent. Those candidates who are already in possession of another accredited Diploma will go through a process of APEL.

  • Course costs

The Advanced Diploma will cost aprox £2500 and this payment can be organised in the following ways

The advanced Diploma constitutes of 150 guided learning hours spread over a 12 month period and consists of 2 learning units.

The course aims to reduce the theory practice gap by concentrating on the development of the core theoretical and practical skills needed to work as an Integrative therapist. For this reason the use of video and audio recording will be utilised as a way of students developing the notion of true reflective practice and peer assessment.

The course is made up of 2 units of learning and follows ABC awards guidelines for the Advanced Diploma.

Over the last decade the BACP and other umbrella organisations have emphasised the need for evidence based practice, and research awareness in counselling and psychotherapy.   Unit 2 of this Advanced Diploma is aimed at facilitating student awareness and commitment to the research process and its implications for developing and refining new knowledge and development in counselling and psychotherapy.

  • Module Contents

Unit 1:  Further Therapeutic Interventions in Counselling

60 guided learning hours made up of 3 workshops.
Each workshop roughly constitutes 18 guided leaning hours, which will be in the form of evening classes, study days, and student led seminars.
 One of these workshops will form the basis for a residential weekend.
Each workshop is then written up to form the formative assessments for unit 1.

Unit 2: The Practical Application of Theory in Counselling

90 guided learning hours

Assessment; 10,000 to 12500 word research dissertation on a research topic selected by each student.
